Campaign Documents and Rules

This page contains the working documents and rules for the campaign.

**RULES **

OVERVIEW Basically the game is a narrative campaign I have generated a map using playing cards and then drawn it up using some mapping software. there is a railway running through the valley which doubles as a victory track.

There are three participants, Red Army, White Army and the local regional ruler. The Red and White armies have two counters eah. 1 is the HQ marker which represents the active front line. The second is the Supplyhead marker this represents the main supply head of the respective army and as it must remain on the railway doulbles as a victory marker. The local force have no counters on the map. instead they are assumed to garrison the built up areas. Battles take place when the HQ counters enter the same square as an opponent or a buildup area. Locals are garenteed to oppose the Red Army each time but only oppose White troops 1/3 of the time.

The Campaign will use Beyond the Empire by Chris Swan for the tabletop and One Hour Wargames by Neil Thomas to generate the scenarios for the The Significant Action.

So When an encounter occurs I dice up one of Neil's 30 scenarios and yes I do have a D30! I randomised who is RED and whom BLUE and dice up the armies using my 'adjusted' army generation tables and play the game under Beyond the Empire rules. These rules also are used post game to see how loses impact on the well being of the army.

If you examine the OHW tables there is a maximum number of each troop type possible my armies are those maximums. the 'fiction' that there is only enough supplied for six units to be at the frontline is simple a gaming device.

The Ultimate aim of the campaign is to drive the opponent of the map occupying all towns and villages but a count of how far the relative supplyheads shows the relative success of both parties.

OCCUPYING TOWNS AND VILLAGES Once either a RED or WHITE army has occupied by force a town or village it doesn't need to be continuously physically occupied. It is assumed that small group of Cheka (Bolsheviks) or pro-tsarist officals are strong enough to keep the local population in line.
