Defeat at Bergetoise

Flamboyance sues for peace!

Celebrations in Nordsbocco City

The world has reeled in shock as the burghers of little Nordsbocco humble the vaulted flamboyance Guard.

Yesterday a poll of the international correspondents of the worlds press were saying that the recent events of two defeats for the forces of Flamboyance had fooled the Nordsbocco Council into a rash act. Today that verdict lies in tatters. General de Côme Pretre commander of the Flamboyance 1st Division met the advancing Nordsbocco troops just outside the market town of Bergetoise. The contingent of Hoysee regulars had not yet appeared so the general advanced to engage the unsupported conscripts of the mountain state.

Your correspondent saw the lay of the land with his own eyes. A moderate sized wood nestled between two flanking hills guarded the front of the Nordsbocco army. De Côme Pretre had only to hold his men beyond the range of the old smooth-bore armed mountaineers and victory seemed secure but eager to rout the largely conscript troops before the regualars from Hoysee could arrive he advanced all along the front.

The Nordsbocco border troops, the best in the army held the western hill against the repeated charges of cavalry. While the eastern ridge was defended by a brigade of conscripts. Deployed just behind the ridge-line they negated the advantage of the Flamboyance long range fire, managing to hold, just, the repeated attacks of the Famboyance 1st Brigade.

It was however in the centre were the greatest shock occurred. The Flamboyant Guards torn between supporting the cavalry on their right and holding the central wood failed to do either, with battalions being feed into the wood only to meet the fully committed Nordsbocco brigade. Which ever way the gallant guardsmen turned their flanks would be exposed to fresh conscript troops, who in the close range fight did not suffer the galling long range fire they would have been normally exposed to.

Finally the inevitable occurred. The Flamboyant cavalry fell back driven by the remains of the Nordsbocco border troops supported by the cavalry reserve. The centre thus uncovered also attempted to withdraw but too late as they were caught by the turn movement of the Nordsbocco fresh cavalry. With defeat in the centre the Flamboyance exhausted left wing withdrew from the field.

The marquis who had been rushing to reinforce General Pretre with the 2nd division met a shattered force reeling back from the triumphal pursuit of the Nordsbocco troops now reinforced with the late arriving Hoysee troops. With a sting of defeats he was obliged to accept Councillor Aristarco Fantin's offer of peace negotiations.

Two Weeks afterwards ….

The final peace entailed the acceptance of a partnership in the Flamboyance new Opera House by the Nordsbocco in lue of increased tolls. While Hoysee regained the river port of Kliene Hoysee after many years. The Marquis set about reorganising his expensive but under-performing army. Only Otto von Pritz was unhappy, he had hoped for a longer war and the prospect of Hoysee controlling Kliene Hoysee did not sit well. With this in mind he issued a note to the effect that Keller did not recognise Hoysee's claim to Kliene Hoysee compared to the older and rightful claim of Keller. He declined however do anything about it, for now. </ff>
