Battle of Leasowe

General Kaspar Seidl was in a rush. He knew time was against him if he wanted to catch the Hoysee army before the Reserves arrived. “Reserves” thought Seidl, “Their really a ducal guards an elite unit over 5,000 men!. Still the rest of the army was nothing to write home about and if he could strike while the Hoysee army was assembling he had a chance.”

The day had been a long one and the men were exhausted after a route march but Seidl and the infantry commander Raparger had launched an immediate attack. Too late the Hoysee Reseves had already arrived.

The battle field of genitally rolling hills dotted with farms and woodland was dominated by two large villages. It appears both sides were attempting to occupy the two built up areas as a prelude to a further assault.

It seemed to go well for the Kellerite forces at first. The initial volleys of musketry favoured the rapid fire of the needle gun. The divisional Jaegers occupied the left hand village repulsing troops of the Hoysee 4th Brigade. However it was on the right that the crisis occurred. Hoyee Elite Mountaineers occupied the village and attacked the opposing Kellerite battalion driving them back. At the same time the rest of the crack infantry advanced around the far right of the village in an attempt to turn Seidl's flank. The fatigue of the days hard marching began to tell and a steam of troops began to fall back from the advancing Hoysee Brigade.

Seidl knew the game was up he had failed to catch the Hoysee troops unprepared. Seidl considered his options. Regroup and attack here again tomorrow, fall back to the next defensive position rest and then manouver or retreat back to Klien-Hoysee. He knew without asking General Raparger would favour the first option and the last was the safest but Keller needed a victory and those options were in his opinion too risky. He would fall back to a position he had noted that afternoon and let his men recover from today before re-engaging the Hoysee army. Hopfully Grand Duke Mikal would give him the time.

The Grand Duke was ecstatic he had commanded a successful defence of Leasowe. The rapid deployment of the Reserve Brigade had saved the day. Now he needed time to reorganise and then begin the advance on Klien-Hoysee.
