General de Côme Pretre, sitting in the small inn his staff had requisitioned looking at the map,  was finally a happy man.  following the failure of the 1st Division at Roccioso Ridge, his light as the best soldier in the army of Flamboyance had dimmed. With the invasion of Hoysee it looked as if he had been sidelined while glory was won elsewhere. all that had now changed and a window, small perhaps, had opened. The army of Nordsbocca had left it defences and was on the march! Flamboyance was also on the move with the Grand Marquis marching with the 2nd to join him and renew the attack on the city state. A small window had however defiantly opened, if he could defeat the Nordsboccians before  the arrival of reinforcements his star would rise again! 

Following the attack on Roccioso Ridge the 1st Division had withdrawn to the province of Greater Meols. The supply was so much easier and constant patrolling had ensured that the cowardly republicans had remained largely on their cursed ridge. However with the Hoysee victory that had changed and Pretor’s scouts had reported a large scale movement along with a contingent of Hoysee troops they were taking the offensive.

With some of the finest troops in the region against some of the worse, how could he lose? Gathering his division he had arrived outside the small market town of Bergetoise. Originally intending to simply defend the town the Nordsboccian army had attempted to bypass the built-up area and drive deeper into the province. General Pretre had then formed up in a blocking position. 

The map was draw. The armies assembled. Only the battle, and his glory, awaited.

The lightening sky found Aristarco Fantin not happy. Following his victory at Roccioso and the similar defensive victory by Hoysee the council had in its infinite wisdom ordered him to advance into Flamboyance territory. Even supported by a brigade of Hoysee regulars Aristarco was in no illusion about how his men would fare against some of Flamboyance, even Germanica’s, finest and he knew who’s fault it would be when the inevitable happened.

So here he was. The attempt to bypass the flamboyant army had failed and his troops were drawn up today would probably seal the fate of the war and defiantly his political career. What had seemed a sure-fire way to greater office had back-fired and his political opponents were circling like vultures.
